Europe and UK Glamping Reviews

West Hale Gate Glamping. Basking in Rural Splendour

Are you looking for an authentic, high-end glamping experience that promises the peace and quiet that only a rural farm setting in East Yorkshire can provide? Excellent.

Founded in 2015 by Mandy and Edward Lindley, West Hale Gate Glamping offers an idyllic  combination of comfort and boutique accommodation that guarantees to shear the burdens and stress of a busy lifestyle as readily as the wool from a sheep’s back.

Only open to adults, the Lindley’s have considered every detail to create a peaceful setting for couples seeking romance or just a change of pace. The individually styled shepherd huts provide both authentic aesthetics as well as comfort, which can be tailored to fit any holiday agenda. Mandy, who is in charge of the admin, the customer relations and the styling, explains how she decided on the look and feel of the three huts.

“I simply based the design of the units on what I would like to stay in,” she reveals, “And I am very fussy and have very particular standards.”

B&B VS SHEPHERD HUTS

Mandy’s background is in the hotel and catering industry, while Edward’s lies in farming, and she always wanted to open a farmhouse bed and breakfast. However, as she explains, with a baby this was not a viable option and so when they founded their site in 2015, the next best thing was to offer stays in shepherd huts.

Three units are available, all titled after local breeds of sheep, The Lincoln Longwool, The Blue Texel and The Swaledale. Each unit is packed with character, sumptuous in detail and offers loads of privacy. The Lambing Shed, which is the latest addition to their flock of stylish hospitality, is a rustic kitchen diner. Perfect for guests to enjoy some meals and drinks.

PPE/COVID PRECAUTIONS

There is a  hand sanitizer station at the entrance to the site, outside the Lambing Shed and individual hand sanitizers in each of the huts. Also, they use contactless checking in, and all of the units are thoroughly cleaned after checkout.

“All our shepherd’s huts are en-suite and an excellent distance apart, with their own hot tubs, BBQs and firepits so no sharing,” Mandy says, “It’s a perfect escape.”

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Loving what they do, Mandy is skilled at building relationships and this has proved invaluable to the site’s success. Their huts enjoy a high number of repeat guests each year, some of which return multiple times in the same year.

“We also live on site so are always on hand to help with any queries,” she explains, “Pre Covid I would always greet guests and show them around and explain how everything works. The approach has changed slightly now but the spirit remains the same.”

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

There are many beautiful places to visit on the East Coast and West Hale Gate Farm is only five miles from North Yorkshire, so it is ideally situated to act as a base for those seeking to explore. Conversely, if guests are looking for the chance to just relax and take a load off, it’s perfect for that too.
