THE RISE AND RISE OF THE STAYCATION. Vidi Guides launches app for safe and independent sightseeing.

With British beaches awash with visitors, many people are in search of socially distanced ways to enjoy their summer staycation. Vidi Guides launches this month to take sightseeing to a new level – in a safe and socially distanced way.

Founded by childhood friends Marius Nigond and Alex Jones, Vidi Guides is a podcast experience that delivers amazing stories and insights from top experts to travellers looking to explore new destinations in an independent, flexible and engaging way. Their podcast walks last about 45 minutes, and are a far cry from the stuffy, academic audio-guides you tend to find in museums.

Co-founder and CEO Marius Nigond said: “The idea for Vidi Guides was born on a trip to South America five years ago when I realised the options for learning about the locations I visited were limited; it was a choice between an expensive tour or a tiny paragraph in a travel guide. So many people visit new places without discovering anything about them and I wanted to shake that up.”

Launching initially in London, Oxford, Cambridge and Stratford Upon Avon, with more great British locations to be added over the summer months, Vidi Guides enables users to discover the hidden gems on their doorstep. Written and narrated by top experts, Vidi Guides’ storytelling tours make for the perfect accompaniment for independent, socially distanced travel and day trips in the UK.

Exploring culture, history and traditions by partnering with art historians, museum specialists, famous architects, photographers and street artists to name but a few, Vidi Guides is capturing the imagination of the travel industry having secured upcoming collaborations with industry big hitters including Contiki, as well live partnerships with major tourism boards, cultural sites and other leading travel brands.

Co-founder and COO Alex Jones added: “The COVID-19 crisis has curbed so many people’s plans for travel this summer, but it is expected that more people will look to explore some of the wonderous places we have here at home. Our tours can help people to do that in a safe and inspiring way, allowing for independence without forgoing experience.”
