East Africa Glamping

Ruhija Rest Camp. Uganda.

*As seen in The Logbook

Located in Ruhija Village adjacent to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the Ruhija Rest Camp is a gorgeous community based, self-sustainable enclosure just at the edge of a forest famous for its gorilla trekking.

Located deep in the forest of Bwindi, guests will be happily satisfied with the services at the accommodation. Water for showers is heated with firewood, and there is electricity and running water. The cabins overlook the valley which provides an enviable view of the forest and there is also a camping ground available for those wishing to sleep under the stars.

While it is an ideal location to stay while trekking the mountain gorillas of Bitukura, Oruzogo and Kyaguriro, it is also a great place for bird lovers. Birders are offered an ideal accommodation in a campsite where more than seven endemic species of birds along libertine Rift Valley are regularly viewed.

They have trained birders who can take guests around Bwindi National Park in the Ruhija Tourism Zone, making sure to point out all the species and highlighting their habits so that guests can get a full appreciation of these wonderful airborne animals in their natural surroundings.

A nature walk is available in camp, where guests can see the many different species of animal and plants that exist in this vibrant and foaming expanse of vegetation. Mythic looking animals like the three horned chameleon, various birds of paradise species and great flocks of butterflies among others can be seen.

Then, at their restaurant, different dishes are prepared including local food for their guests. Meals cost between $5 to $10 and the restaurant is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Currently the camp is hosting a children’s project for environmental protection. They have a trees and fruits nursery bed which are to be distributed in schools to help raise environmental conservation awareness.

It is a proven fact that the future of our world rests squarely on the appreciation that the younger generations have for nature. Here, thanks to the admirable work done by Ruhija Community Rest Camp, these children will grow up with a respect and love for nature and all of its wonderful beauty.
