The Great Trekkers Safaris was founded on the 26th of April 2016 by Nasasira Rogers and Makoma Herbert. As a community-based tour company, they promote sustainable travel that creates and leaves a positive impact in communities close to the conservation areas around Uganda.
Rogers, who was born and raised in the country, was introduced to tourism at an early age. His home is a few miles from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is home to the mountain gorilla and as a boy he saw many travelers come to his community to see them.
Herbert is a business administration graduate of Makerere University and has an unmatched passion for nature and wildlife photography. Believing that with a good lens he can transform his community by sharing the beauty of Uganda to the rest of the world he has traveled to every part of the country. He understands the potential of every destination across East Africa and his calm personality tells it all “Speak less, do more and accept every challenge.”
Later, the pair were joined by Juan E. Reina. Juan was born in Barcelona Spain and grew up with a passion for travel and fell in love with Africa and her people on his first trip. Defender of fair and sustainable tourism he works hard to ensure that the benefits of tourism are maintained in the countries of destination.
The Business
There are ten locally employed staff and as a team they help run the day to day office as well as the field operations. The team is composed of both young and old which gives the company a good balance between creativity and experience.
Each safari package is designed to take full advantage of the abundance of things to see in Uganda. They are uniquely tailored and run over a number of days although some can be customized to suit the needs of the clients. Every year the safaris are updated to ensure that they meet the proper criteria of what the team want to offer.
It’s about going the extra mile for the clients and the business partners with several community projects at Nyabuhama, Rwenjeru for Lake Mburo and Twin lakes communities in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Besides taking a client to several national parks, they also include communities in their packages and clients get to have a good time interacting with the locals of these areas. These visits are also important as for every visit to these communities, their company gives back 20% to the school and projects to enhance the standing of women in Uganda. With effect from January 2019, they have updated all their packages for Ugandan trips and included at least a day to be spent on community visit activities.
PRICE. All our trip packages have price quotes for a middle range and luxury standards. We don’t offer budget trips.
